November 21, 2003 - CETC-ChinaComm Communications Corporation, Ltd., the largest Wireless ISP in China. CETC-ChinaComm, a Beijing-based WISP, provides Internet services throughout the vast nation. In 2001, the company won a bid from China's Ministry of Information Industry to deploy a wireless broadband network across the 3.5 GHz frequency in Chongqing, Wuhan, Nanjing, Xiamen and Qingdao. In early 2003, they received additional licenses in 24 cities. As they built the networks, they began thinking about using frequencies on the unlicensed spectrum to meet their customers' needs, which the 3.5 GHz frequency couldn't fully support because only 10Mhz is allocated for each license per city. Motorola Professional Services formed a partnership with CETC-ChinaComm to set up trials using Canopy wireless equipment. The Canopy equipment proved successful during the trials, prompting CETC-ChinaComm to launch the system commercially. "The Canopy 5.7 GHz equipment provided both the interference mitigation to have a stably running system and the needed bandwidth," Stipati says.

12/18/2003 - Vyyo Inc. announced China Mobile has deployed Vyyo's wireless broadband solutions in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, China. Wuhan Research Institute (WRI) served as the system integrator. Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, has a population exceeding 400,000 and serves as the communications hub for the region. China Mobile is utilizing Vyyo's products for global system for mobile communication (GSM) backhaul and business class services in Lhasa. Recently, Vyyo announced a China Mobile deployment in Shanghai.

7/31/2003 - China Mobile, China Netcom and China Unicom have each chosen to deploy Cambridge Broadband’s VectaStar fixed wireless access equipment. Each of these three operators was recently awarded a number of 3.5GHz fixed wireless access licences in China. The Beijing DG Telecommunications Equipment Co. (DG Telecom), Cambridge Broadband’s partner in China, will undertake distribution, sales and support of the VectaStar equipment under its own “DGStar” brand.

11/5/2003, Broadband Wireless Business Magazine China Netcom Deploys Vyyo’s Gear in Six Cities - China Netcom Inc. has deployed Vyyo’s broadband wireless equipment, operating in the 3.5 GHz band, in six major cities in China, according to an announcement issued by Vyyo. Vyyo offers carrier-class point-to-point broadband wireless systems that enable wireless telephony and high-speed data services.

October 21, 2003, Broadband Wireless Business Magazine China Netcom Begins Deployment of Alvarion/BISC 3.5GHz Broadband Wireless Solution - Alvarion Ltd., and its strategic partner Beijing International Switching System Corporation Ltd. (BISC), a joint venture between Siemens AG and Chinese enterprises, today announced that the Alvarion/BISC 3.5GHz Broadband Wireless solution has been chosen by China Netcom for a multi-city deployment. The first advanced WALKair™ networks are being deployed in 8 cities in the Sichuan province, as well as Wuxi, the industrial center of the wealthy Jiangsu province, and in Ningpo of the Zhejiang province.

Established in December 2000, China Railcom is authorized by the Government of State, approved by the Ministry of Information Industry, and, with $1.6B of registered capital, operates as one of China's three largest telecommunications networks. China Railcom is a fully licensed operator in China, focusing on large and medium-sized businesses and large-sized ISPs. With a network capacity of over two million lines, China Railcom offers long distance, local area, Internet Access, FAX and telegraph, satellite and public data services. It also provides leased lines and wholesale network leases. It has launched its IP telephony service in 28 cities and plans to extend to 100 cities.

3/25/2003 - China Railcom's purchase contract for at least 50 links is the first carrier contract for Terabeam in Asia and the first contract by any FSO company with any telecommunications carrier in China for fiber extension. Terms were not disclosed. China Railcom Shanghai plans to set up around 50 Terabeam links in 2003 as the carrier continues to expand its broadband network. China Railcom serves large and medium-sized enterprises and large Internet service providers. The first several Terabeam links for China Railcom are for the Lujiazhui financial area, one of the most prominent and fastest growing commercial areas in Shanghai. In addition to that enterprise market, China Railcom's wireline network also serves other major Chinese carriers like Jitong Networks, China Netcom and China Unicom, who lease lines from China Railcom.

1/28/2002 - Chinasat is the first customer in Wi-LAN Inc.'s recently announced $5.9 million (U.S.) purchase order from Wi-Comm Communications. Wi-Comm will supply China Satellite Communications Group (Chinasat) with Wi-LAN's 3.5 GHz BWS 3500 fixed wireless equipment. Chinasat will deploy the system in the city of Nanjing as part of its integrated sky and land communication strategy. Chinasat is one of six Chinese telecom operators, providing satellite-based rural telephone systems, multimedia and broadband wireless data access services. Wi-Comm is a Chinese joint-venture company based in Beijing, with a 20 percent equity stake held by Wi-LAN. Wi-Comm has a nonexclusive license to manufacture and sell Wi-LAN's products in China.

1/20/2004, Broadband Wireless Business Magazine Wi-LAN’s 5.8 GHz Radio Ordered by China Telecom - Wi-LAN Inc. has received an order to provide its LIBRA 5800 broadband wireless system to China Telecom Corp. The system will be used in a point-to-multipoint configuration, operating in the license-exempt 5.8 GHz frequency band, and will be deployed in a showcase network in the Tianjin municipality of China. Tianjin is an industrial city with more than 10 million people, the closest port city near Beijing. “Although China Telecom owns licensed 3.5 GHz radio spectrum in Tianjin, they are deploying the 5.8 GHz LIBRA 5800 Series products because their licensed spectrum doesn't provide sufficient capacity to satisfy the market demand,” said Lok Chow, WCU’s CEO.

1/19/2004 - Solectek Corp. has signed new contracts with China Telecom, which plans to use Solectek’s 5.8 GHz broadband wireless equipment to provide services in the Henan and Shanxi provinces.

April 3, 2003 -- China Telecom has chosen the Alvarion/BISC Broadband Wireless solution for its first commercial 3.5 GHz broadband wireless access network deployment. The deal follows a successful trial in Tokyo of Tropos' MetroMesh routers and its Control element manager products. The first deployment of Tropos' system is planned for the Iwakuni Air Station in Iwakuni, Japan, where the U.S. Marine Corps is stationed. 3/14/2005, Broadband Wireless Business Magazine -Yozan To Deploy Airspan's WiMAX Gear in Tokoyo Yozan Inc. plans to deploy "WiMAX ready" equipment (based on 802.16-2004 technology) from Airspan Networks Inc. throughout Tokyo in a deal valued at more than $12 million. Yozan, a Tokyo-based service provider, will conduct a trial of Airspan's AS.MAX system in the second quarter of 2005. A service launch using Airspan's system is planned for the fourth quarter of this year. Yozan will use Airspan's AS.MAX system to provide connectivity services in Tokyo, as well as high-speed access services such as voice, data and video. The network rollout will consist of approximately 600 cells in central Tokyo and then expand into surrounding areas.

Yozan currently provides services using licensed PHS spectrum (1.9 GHz), as well as 280 MHz spectrum for pager service. The company plans to add the WiMAX gear to its existing PHS infrastructure.

July 30, 2002 -- Yozan, an alternative wireless network operator in Japan, has announced that it will use Ericsson technology for its integrated wireless connectivity solution.
