High speed wireless Internet access - Norway, Maine

AirMaine offers high-speed Internet access using wireless technology. The system incorporates radio systems in the FCC unlicensed 2.4Ghz frequency and according to specifications laid out in the IEEE 802.11 specification. We currently use equipment from Aironet, but as other vendors develop competing product lines we will evaluate each offering.

Access will currently be provided as shared access to a T1 backbone. Our T1 (1.544Mbps-equivalent to 28 56k lines) is connected directly to a tier 1 Internet Provider. This puts our connection directly into the Internet Backbone. Our line won't be shared with thousands of dial-up customers. It is our policy to ensure that each customer be given a minimum of 128Kbps throughput with burst capability to 1Mbps (1024Kbps for short periods of time). File downloads are typically the only functions that will even begin to utilize the full bandwidth. Downloading a 10Mb file on a dedicated 56Kbps line will take approximately 30 minuets. On our T1 this can be accomplished in as little as 2 minuets! To provide equal service to all our customers we will be limiting access to the full bandwidth on an as needed basis.
