Thu Jun 9, 2005 - BellSouth to Launch Wireless Broadband in August - BellSouth has announced that it will deploy wireless broadband service to select areas in Athens, Georgia. The company will roll out the service to several cities in Florida later in the year. The new BellSouth® FastAccess® Internet Service will provide Internet access to customers at broadband speeds. The system transmits signals between local radio towers and a small non-line-of-sight desktop subscriber modem that plugs into a desktop or laptop computer, or a local router. The wireless broadband modem transmits data to and from nearby radio towers or tall structures using BellSouth licensed BRS and WCS radio spectrum instead of traditional landline wires. BellSouth has contracted with Navini Networks for their pre-WiMax, Ripwave™ equipment for this wireless broadband deployment.

10/22/2003, Broadband Wireless Business Magazine U.S. Wireless Online Initiates Broadband Service - U.S. Wireless Online Inc. has activated high-speed Internet access services in Kentucky and Indiana using non-line-of-sight broadband wireless equipment. The company serves both business and residential users. Installations are currently underway with customers, according to an announcement issued by the Louisville-based service provider. U.S. Wireless Online is providing service in New Albany, Indiana, and northwestern Jefferson County (the Louisville, Ky. metropolitan area). The service launch constitutes Phase I of an announced rollout across southern Indiana and the Louisville metro area. Four tower locations have been selected for this phase, covering approximately two thirds of the Louisville metro area

12/19/2002 - Air2Lan and US Wireless Online plan to merge, with the transaction expected to close by Jan. 31, 2003. The new entity, called Air2Lan Online Inc., will serve more than 1,400 corporate accounts, two of the nation's largest convention centers and Wi-Fi hot spots located in hotels and coffee shops. Air2Lan Online will have more than 40,000 users after the merger, according to an announcement issued by the two companies.
