Communications satellites play a major role in telephone transmission, television and radio program distribution, computer communications, maritime navigation, and military command and control. Web-Sat provides all network operations functions for DOPC’s West Africa service out of its Dublin hub, including access to the global internet backbone. All sales and marketing in West Africa are performed by DOPC, who are also branding the service. The service is provided via PanAmSat PAS1R satellite at 45 degrees West.

WildBlue

WildBlue is a company that plans to deliver affordable high-speed Internet access services via satellite to homes and small offices, virtually regardless of their locations in the U.S. by 2004. This innovative company was founded to accelerate customer access to broadband. WildBlue was founded as KaSTAR Satellite Communications in Colorado in April 1995. On May 8, 1997, the FCC assigned WildBlue Ka-band (20 to 30 GHz) fixed-satellite service (FSS) licenses at orbital locations of 73° west longitude and 109.2° west longitude. WildBlue also has the license to the U.S. portion of the commercial Ka-band capacity on the TeleSat ANIK F2 satellite at 111.1° west longitude.
