10/25/2004, Broadband Wireless Business Magazine - Intel and NextNet Wireless To Develop Mobile WiMAX 802.16e Gear - Intel Corp. and Clearwire have teamed up to develop future mobile broadband wireless technology. The companies plan to use NextNet Wireless’ broadband wireless system for the development effort. The NextNet gear will use Intel’s chipsets that support the developing IEEE 802.16e amendment, which aims to add mobility to wireless metropolitan area networking (MAN) gear. NextNet is a subsidiary of Clearwire, which is owned by wireless technology investor Craig McCaw.

Additionally, McCaw and Sean Maloney, executive VP and general manager of the Intel Communications Group, stated that Intel Capital plans to make “a significant investment in Clearwire. The investment is part of a $150 million fund that Intel Capital uses to boost high-speed wireless networking technology deployment.

July 20, 2005 (Reuters) Terabeam to buy Proxim assets for $28 million - The deal comes after Terabeam, also known as YDI Wireless Inc., emerged as the high bidder in the court-approved auction held in connection with Proxim's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. The agreement is expected to supersede Proxim's earlier deal to sell its assets to Moseley Associates.
