There's a relatively new acronym floating around in the cellular industry - and it'sIRDB. What's it stand for? What's it do? IRDB Stands for Intelligent Roamer Database. Its purpose is to allow cellular carriers to establish preferred roam rates in areas where their customers roam and then to develop a database of the preferred carrier's System Identification (SID) numbers. The database is then downloaded into IRDB compliant phones. When an IRDB phone roams into another market, its programming allows it to pick up the signal from the preferred or favored carrier. This ensures that the customer receives the best roam rate for that area. Some of the cellular phones that are IRDB compliant include: the Nokia 5120, Nokia 5125, and the Nokia 6120.
